Need a summer read? Check out the Tribeca Book Club's Complete LIst

Summer reading New York City style
You asked for it, and so here it is: All the books members of the Tribeca Book Club have read since they began almost four years ago. Maryl and Caryl always encourage our readers to support
their independent book store but if you can't and want to order one of the books below from Amazon, just click on the title. Now find a hammock, a beach chair, or a room of your own and get reading. If there's one (or more) books from the list that you've  already read and loved, please leave a comment below. And, if you would kindly like us, we hope to reach 300 by summer's end.  It's almost like the New York Times Best Sellers list for us.

    1. Hi Anne,

Do you have a favorite? Is it Bridge of Sighs by any chance? Let me
know. I am keeping track of reader favorites.

    2. I loved Bridge of Sighs -- and if you allow me another one -- I have to vote for Steve Jobs and To the End of the Land... each so different - and great in their own way!
and of course I am loving your blog -- I shared it with my friends in Asheville NC -- and they loved it too!!

    1. I loved Olive Kittredge so much that I missed her when I finished the book.
I read The Help in one sitting a rainy Saturday in the country. I have a feeling
one of those or The Elegance of the Hedgehog will be the crowd pleaser.
Thank you for liking the blog. It means a lot to us.

  3. There are a lot of books on this list that I haven't read but would like too. I did like Room by Emma Donoghue. You might enjoy an interview with her that was published on Talking Writing: http://talkingwriting.com/?p=19125 (I write an art column for them on occasion and have done a few interviews as well)

They also interviewed Jennifer Egan: http://talkingwriting.com/?p=20549 -- I thought that was a brilliant interview. And I did like Message from the Good Squad, though would have benefited from some discussion as would my reading of Edgar Sawtelle. BOTH of my sons like Cormac McCarthy and I did read The Road, but tough, tough story.

I loved The Great House as well as the History of Love (I think that's the title) by Nicole Krauss.

And so many of these books I have yet to read. Thanks for the list -- great to have some guidance for my summer reading. And, yep, gotta find a book club!

  4. Thanks for the great list - some were already on mine - I loved "The Help" - did not like "Freedom" - I think "Henrietta Lacks" is next - I'm currently reading "Cutting For Stone" - by Abraham Verghese - he came to our authors' series this year - fascinating!

    1. You sound like a serious reader yourself. I haven't read "Henrietta Lacks"--
I hadn't joined the club yet--but I have it on that special shelf in my book
case. I call that shelf or shelves "my great unread library"--it's all the books
      I meant to get to.

  5. Thank you for your inspiring list. I enjoy novels by Nicole Krauss very much but this time I think I will go for The Help. I have seen the movie and I found it excellent so I have very hight expectations. Bridge of Sighs might follow:)
